Mercedes-Benz EV Sales Reach Q3 Record as Electric GLC Leads Growth

Mercedes-Benz sold a record 68,400 battery-electric cars in Q3 2026, led by the GLC, as China weakness weighed on wider sales.

Mercedes-Benz EV Sales Reach Q3 Record as Electric GLC Leads Growth

The electric GLC has become the clearest sign that Mercedes-Benz’s latest EV lineup is reaching buyers: the company sold 68,400 battery-electric cars in Q3 2026, a quarterly record, while GLC sales more than tripled from Q2. The jump came as China remained a drag on total sales, making the contrast between regional demand especially sharp.

Across its Cars and Vans divisions, Mercedes-Benz Group sold 491,700 vehicles worldwide. Battery-electric sales rose 52% year over year. Group sales fell 6% overall, reflecting weaker results in China; outside China, they grew 2%.

New models lift electric sales

Mercedes-Benz Cars delivered 407,200 vehicles during the quarter. Its 68,400 battery-electric cars represented a 61% increase from Q3 2025 and a 29% rise from Q2. BEVs made up 16.8% of Cars sales, up 7.2 percentage points year over year. Including plug-in hybrids, electrified vehicles accounted for 25%.

The electric GLC supplied the strongest push. The electric CLA also gained ground, with sales up 24% from Q2 as it reached more markets, including the United States and Japan. The new electric GLB added another model to the expanding SUV range.

European demand is running ahead of available supply. Mercedes-Benz says the battery-electric GLC, CLA, GLB and GLA are sold out in Europe for the rest of 2026, with orders extending into 2027. Its Bremen, Rastatt and Kecskemét plants are running three shifts to support production.

Europe recorded its strongest quarter for Mercedes-Benz BEVs: sales rose 78% year over year and 24% from Q2. Nearly one in three Mercedes-Benz cars sold in the region was fully electric. That mix suggests the newer models are changing the company’s sales profile, though the figures don’t reveal how much of the increase reflects supply, new-market availability or repeatable demand.

Europe and North America offset China

Mercedes-Benz Cars sales in Europe reached 168,700, up 5% year over year. Germany rose 13% and the United Kingdom 7%. The company ranked first in Germany’s BEV fleet market in August, pointing to a meaningful role for electric models among business customers.

North American Cars sales increased 4% to 83,200. Across the first nine months of 2026, they were up 11%; in the United States, sales rose 6% in Q3 and 12% for the nine-month period. Updated GLE, GLE Coupé and GLS models arrived in the United States in September.

China remains the harder part of the sales picture. Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 132,300 vehicles across Asia, down 25%, while China sales fell 31% amid difficult premium-market conditions and stronger competition. The GLC and E-Class held up comparatively well, together accounting for almost two-thirds of the company’s China sales.

Mercedes-Benz is adding locally produced models to its China range. The electric GLC L, launched in July, is gaining momentum, and the locally produced GLE L arrived in September. The GLC’s European performance gives the company a promising model to build on, but the source figures don’t yet show whether that response will carry into China.

SUVs anchor the range as new models arrive

SUVs represented 56% of Mercedes-Benz Cars sales in the first nine months of 2026, with the GLC leading the lineup. In the Core segment, Q3 sales totaled 234,200, down 6% worldwide but up 5% outside China; Europe posted double-digit growth. The electric GLC was the segment’s main growth driver and was named German Premium Car of the Year 2027 in September.

The C-Class range also widened. Orders opened in August for updated Saloon and Estate models with electrified combustion engines, followed in Europe in September by the electric C 300 4MATIC. The all-new electric C-Class is beginning to reach showrooms and has received positive early customer feedback.

Entry-segment sales were 119,200, down 4% year over year but 8% above Q2, helped by the CLA’s expansion into more markets. The all-new GLA entered series production at Rastatt in September, and initial customer orders were described as encouraging. Together, the GLC, CLA, GLB and GLA give Mercedes-Benz a broader set of electric choices heading into 2027.

Van sales add another electric measure

Mercedes-Benz Vans sold 84,400 units worldwide in Q3, up 1% year over year. Sales outside China rose 6%, supported by an 8% increase in North America and 25% growth in the Rest of the World region. Electric van sales grew 12%, lifting their global share to 11% from 10% a year earlier; in Europe, the share reached 15%, up from 14%.

Commercial van sales increased 4%, while large vans rose 15%. At IAA Transportation 2026, Mercedes-Benz Vans presented its commercial range and PRO business ecosystem, alongside the electric VLE in an eight-seat configuration for professional shuttle use.

The quarter’s central takeaway is a split performance: newer electric cars are drawing strong demand, especially in Europe, while China continues to weigh on the group total. Production shifts and order books extending into 2027 show the immediate challenge now is supplying the expanding lineup while the company works to regain momentum in China.
